How to Care for Your MAVRA Skull Wall Decor
Stone-finish resin is one of the most durable materials used in home decor, and the MAVRA skull wall decor is designed to maintain its appearance under the conditions of real daily life. That said, like any permanent installation, it benefits from a small amount of routine care. This guide covers everything you need to know.
UNDERSTANDING THE MATERIAL
The MAVRA skull wall decor is made from a high-density resin with a stone-finish surface treatment. This finish is what gives the pieces their dimensional, matte appearance — and it is also what makes them resistant to the issues that affect painted or lacquered surfaces: chipping, fading, and the dulling that comes from repeated cleaning with the wrong products.
The finish is non-porous, which means it does not absorb dust, moisture, or cleaning agents into the surface. It also means that most common household cleaners are unnecessary and can, over time, leave residue that dulls the matte appearance. The material is designed to be low-maintenance, and treating it as such produces the best long-term results.
ROUTINE CLEANING
For regular maintenance, a dry microfiber cloth is sufficient. Wipe the surface of each piece in light, even passes to remove settled dust. The dimensional surface of the skull forms means dust can accumulate in the deeper recesses — use the corner of the cloth or a soft brush to reach these areas without applying pressure.
Do this as needed. In most environments, once every one to two weeks is enough. In spaces with more airflow or near windows, more frequent dusting keeps the finish looking its best.
Avoid feather dusters or rough cloths. Feather dusters redistribute dust rather than removing it, and rougher materials can leave fine scratches on the stone finish over time. The microfiber cloth is the right tool.
SPOT CLEANING
If a specific area needs cleaning beyond routine dusting — a splash, a fingerprint, a mark from installation — use a slightly damp microfiber cloth. Wring it well before use. The cloth should be barely damp, not wet.
Wipe the area gently, then follow immediately with a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture. Do not allow water to sit on the surface or pool in the recesses of the form.
For marks that do not respond to a damp cloth, a small amount of mild dish soap diluted in water can be applied with the cloth. Work in small circular motions, then wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry immediately. This is rarely necessary and should not become a routine.
The stone-finish resin is designed to look correct under real conditions. The less you do to it, the better it holds.
WHAT TO AVOID
Do not use: abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach-based products, ammonia-based glass cleaners, or any spray cleaner applied directly to the piece. These can strip or dull the stone finish and are not needed for this material.
Do not submerge the pieces in water or expose them to sustained moisture. While the material is moisture-resistant, prolonged contact with water can affect the mounting hardware on the reverse side of each piece.
Do not place the pieces near direct heat sources. High, sustained heat — from radiators, heating vents positioned directly below the installation, or concentrated sunlight over time — can affect the resin. Normal room temperature fluctuations are not a concern.
INSTALLATION AND MOUNTING
The MAVRA skull wall decor is designed for flush wall mounting. Each piece should be adhered flat against the wall surface with no gap between the piece and the wall. A gap affects how the contact shadow falls — and the shadow is part of how the dimensional form reads visually.
For standard drywall, the included mounting hardware is appropriate for the weight of each piece. For tile, concrete, or plaster walls, use appropriate wall anchors for the surface type. The piece itself does not require special treatment — the mounting method should match the wall, not the decor.
Check the mounting periodically. If a piece has shifted or the mount has loosened, re-secure it before any further movement occurs. The resin is durable, but a fall from height can cause damage that is difficult to repair.
LONG-TERM CARE
Under normal conditions — interior residential use, standard temperature and humidity, routine dusting — the MAVRA skull wall decor requires no maintenance beyond what is described above. The material does not rust, fade, chip under normal conditions, or require periodic recoating.
If you move and want to reinstall the pieces in a new location, remove them carefully from the wall and inspect the mounting points before reinstalling. The pieces themselves do not require cleaning or preparation between installations.
Properly cared for, these pieces are designed to be permanent. They were not made for seasonal use, and they are not made for replacement cycles. The goal is that the piece you install today is the piece that is still in that room years from now, looking the same.
